Our vision is an integrated community where everyone has access to opportunities and pathways to success. Serving Lake and McHenry Counties, Mano a Mano is located in Round Lake Park and has community sites in Mundelein, Highland Park, Wauconda, and Zion.

Know Your Rights

This presentation is focused on providing information to those who are interested in gaining knowledge on the basic constitutional rights we all have regardless of immigration status.  Additionally, we will discuss any updates in immigration policies and how these affect them. We will also provide information on fraud prevention and resources available to those seeking immigration legal services.  Because Immigration policies are constantly changing, this presentation’s focus may evolve based on current policies or current events.

The Basics of the US Immigration Law

The purpose of this presentation is to provide objective information to community agencies and entities about the basic legal structure of the US immigration system, including the most up to date executive orders regarding immigration and their impact on immigrant families in Lake County. Our hope is that this information will help participants understand and serve immigrant families in our community. The presentation is intended for informational purposes only and should not be considered legal advice.

Jael Mejia, Program Manager, joined Mano a Mano in 2014.  She currently oversees the Immigration Legal Service Program and Adult Education Program. Jael is a DOJ Accredited Representative, allowing her to represent clients before United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

 

Jael holds an Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies and currently is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Management. Jael is originally from Mexico City, Mexico and is proud to be a part of Mano a Mano in our work of empowering immigrants from all backgrounds to thrive and actively engage in American life.
